StuSta Rugby München has taken over the 3. Bundesliga South-West table leader position in a tour de force achieved after a well-fought 33:21 victory over TSV 1846 Nürnberg.

After a convincing win over Stuttgart in the previous week and their stunning 57:0 away-game victory the last time the two teams met, the Studentenstadt boys expected strong resistance from a renewed-strength Nürnberg; however, StuSta managed to put points on the board in the third minute with a converted try.  StuSta’s lead was short-lived, however, as Nürnberg punched back with a penalty kick and a try under the posts.  A successful conversion put Nürnberg in the lead 10:7.

The lead was fiercely contested as both sides continued to bump up their scores through to half time where StuSta stood on top at 19:13.

Two minutes into the second half and StuSta were again notching up the points with their fourth try, securing themselves a bonus point on the table.  Nürnberg put up a strong fight throughout the second half, but StuSta were able to push their physical superiority to post a 33:21 victory.

With Stuttgart RC defeating RGH II 27:3 in this round, StuSta stands for the first time at the top of the table, pending a further game each for Stuttgart and RGH II.

The next (and last) game before the winter break will be at home, 14:30 on December 3 against RG Heidelberg II.  Due to the tight situation in the 3. Liga South-West table it will be a landmark clash in the battle for a position in the 2. Bundesliga.
